How to Prepare Gerbers for Offshore Manufacturing

The Essential File Package

A complete Gerber package for offshore manufacturing should include:

  • **Top/Bottom Copper Layers** (.GTL, .GBL)
  • **Solder Mask Layers** (.GTS, .GBS)
  • **Silkscreen Layers** (.GTO, .GBO)
  • **Drill Files** (Excellon format, .DRL)
  • **IPC-D-356 Netlist** (Critical for electrical testing verification)
  • **Fab Drawing** (PDF format specifying stackup, finishes, and tolerances)

  • Common Mistakes to Avoid

    1. **Missing Aperture Definitions**: Ensure your EDA tool embeds apertures in the RS-274X or Gerber X2 format.

    2. **Ambiguous Stackups**: Never assume the manufacturer knows your layer order. Explicitly label them in a separate text file or on the fab drawing.
